2012 Award
This project had two main objectives, primarily to modernize a three decade old landscape. This was achieved by re-designing a set of precast steps that were also cracked and aesthetically unattractive. Also, creating a backyard that featured unusable living and entertaining space. The feature space being a sitting and firepit area.
The secondary concern was the clients desire to eliminate the lawn in the backyard. This was achieved by xeriscaping the backyard and introducing peagravel. A sense of balance and softness was created by adding an array of planters and mulch beds.
This project brought many smiles not only to the customer but also from the people involved in the project. The consensus was that the project was worthy of entering Landscape Ontario's Award of Excellence Program.

The project began with the removal of a large, infected tree, old concrete walkway and damaged sod. We then had the opportunity to let our creativity flow.
The steps were unattractive but structurally sound so we applied a 3-steps process which covers existing concrete leaving a safe textured surface.
The curbing along both sides of the driveway was also in good shape. To create a focal point, pavers where convexed into the asphalt and the raised walkway was concaved into the front yard. To soften the landscape we used black rock, river rock and cocoa mulch. This would also serve to retain the soil. We also replaced the sod, added new shrubs and various plants.
This front yard has contributed to the overall beauty of the neighbourhood.

With this home being situated on Lake Superior, the owner wanted to unify and blend the appearance of the house and garage with their marine setting.
The beauty of the lake was enhanced not only by the arches of the arbours, but also by five strategically positioned, lighted cedar posts. Four posts are located around the driveway and one is close to the home’s entrance. The cedar posts tie into the nautical theme with accents of mooring rope wrapped around them.
